Last week the Oklahoma Senate passed a bill in a vote of 38 to 10 that provides legal protection to motorists who hit protestors that are blocking roadways.
Democrats who opposed the bill tried arguing that this bill would hurt peaceful protestors as well as innocent bystanders. Clearly their argument didn’t hold enough water to sway any votes in the 38-10 victory. Republicans think this will better protect drivers and families who get caught surrounded by protestors and rioters.
The bill was sparked by an incident that occurred last year when a driver had their family in a car and towing a trailer got surrounded by protestors. The protestors were attacking the vehicle, with the children crying of fear in the backseat, when the driver sped away forcing protestors to the edge of an overpass. One of the protestors then fell off the overpass and died. The driver was never charged. This bill was put into place to protect drivers like that.
NOW THAT’S THE RIGHT APPROCH
